Guiding children is never easy for me. Sure, I could sit a kid down next to a cast carp and wait for the fish to take off and hook itself. But that would be so boring. No such Back to the Roots.
The goal for the day was clear. To introduce the young angler to several fishing techniques – trolling, float and feeder. With the youngster trying out which technique he would enjoy the most, we would try to catch at least one fish with each technique.
So this morning we started with trolling, which is full of action and the novice angler gets a nice “throw around” at it.
After catching the target fish (bass), we proceeded to carefully mix the “feeder” and then went to the boat to pre-feed the fishing spot for later carp fishing. This was followed by an introduction to the rig and basic knowledge for fishing with a feeder and float tube. Several smaller species of fish were caught in decent numbers, with bites coming in reliably immediately after casting and several smaller carp were managed.
Goal accomplished It was time to try to catch a big carp for a reward. Two mounts fly into the water on the pre-fed spot and during the rest of the day we manage to successfully land over ten carp, led by a scaly around 10 kg and over 80 Cm in length. The perfect end to the day, however, was Dolf’s very valuable pike of around 70 Cm on a spinnerbait.
Today for me was full of concentration, untangling and explaining But the childlike joy of a catch is simply irreplaceable and never fails to amuse me 🙂
